Catch Up on Our Discussions at EB 2022
For the first time since the pandemic forced the adoption of remote learning and virtual visits, SCIREQ attended Experimental Biology (EB) in-person to kick off the spring of 2022. Our team was excited to step out of the home office and into the exhibit hall.
Experimental Biology (EB) is the annual meeting of five societies that explores the latest research in anatomy, biochemistry and molecular biology, investigative pathology, pharmacology, and physiology. Participants represent scientists from academic institutions, government agencies, non-profit organizations, and industry. The meeting features plenary lectures, workshops, symposia, poster presentations, on-site career services and exhibits spotlighting products and services integral to this professional community.
EB was the first in-person conference since the pandemic for many that attended and there was a lot of excitement around the event. Even though there was a diverse range of research interests, here are some highlights of our discussions around our clinically-relevant physiological outcomes derived from ex vivo/in vivo models at EB 2022!
SCIREQ Highlights
At this year’s annual meeting, SCIREQ focused our discussions around our plethysmography system – the vivoFlow – which permits a continuous, non-invasive assessment of breathing patterns in conscious subjects, and allows for automated exposure to gas challenges, as well as aerosol delivery, wired and vascular access. Whole body plethysmography measurements of respiratory rate, estimated tidal volume, minute ventilation and events such as apneas, provide valuable insights into breathing drive and control.
Another highlight at this year’s EB was biopotential monitoring using implantable telemetry. Plethysmography can be extended with high-fidelity EEG/EMG signals, optogenetics triggering and blood oxygen sensors, which yield further insights into a subject’s ventilatory control during gas challenges.
Our team at SCIREQ was happy to discuss our pulmonary solutions at this year’s event and despite this being the last Experimental Biology conference, we look forward to meeting again.
