Ending Support for Legacy CSR

»

Our legacy CSR system has officially retired starting July 1, 2023.

It has now been over 5 years since the final sale of the Legacy CSR (LCSR) and introduction of our new CSRi system. During this period, large changes occurring in supply sourcing logistics and ballooning costs associated with maintenance of the legacy systems has made it increasingly difficult to support LCSR hardware. In addition, damage due to improper packing for yearly maintenance of these systems has led to reduced stock availability of parts that are no longer manufactured. After careful consideration, it was decided to retire the LCSR system.

We (SCIREQ/EMKA Technologies) will no longer provide remote troubleshooting, maintenance, or validation for legacy CSR equipment effective immediately. We recommend that all users send their equipment in for a final maintenance of the system while limited parts are still available. We will be accepting Legacy CSR systems for final maintenance the next 3 months (until the end of October 2023) after which time, regretfully, we will not be able to perform maintenance on these systems.

Further, as Microsoft cannot support (nor recommends) use of Windows editions pre-Windows 10 for security reasons and legacy flexiWare software was designed and validated within such environments we cannot recommend nor support continued use of legacy software. While existing support guides and manuals for the obsolete editions can be found on our website or by reaching out to local support teams, we no longer have the capacity to assist with troubleshooting, protocol development, data review or any other related software support of flexiWare designed for pre-Windows 10 environments. Specific to inExpose applications, this affects flexiWare 6/6.1 and for flexiVent applications, this affects any edition below flexiWare7.6.7. Note that editions of flexiWare below 7.6 have not been officially support since retirement of the Legacy flexiVent system, in 2017.

We recognize that funding is precious; therefore, although we have ended support for the LCSR, we would like to extend the offer to assist with future funding opportunities; for instance sole source letters, grant justifications etc. for our CSRi platform.

The CSRi system has already been successfully used by many users since its launch and offers numerous benefits over the LCSR including:

  • All the functionality of its predecessor
  • Unlike the LCSR, does not require yearly maintenance. The CSRi is fully field-serviceable
  • Improvements to major components for easy cleaning and prolonged durability
  • Carousel modification with slots specifically designed for research cigarettes to allow better cigarette placement and alignment with the lighter
  • Wider lighter with easily replaceable lighting elements provides better contact with cigarettes and removes the need for lighter refurbishment
  • Easily removable magnetized ashtray that can be emptied mid-experiment
  • flexiWare 8 software control, including improved user interface, ease of use and more advanced software options than legacy editions of the software

In Vitro Smoke Exposure

We are proud to introduce the commercialized expoCube, adding robust in vitro exposure to the automated inExpose system.

The expoCube provides a novel ALI (air liquid interface) culture exposure system, integrating with the inExpose’s existing exposure generators such as the integrated cigarette smoking robot and industry leading e-cigarette extensions.

The expoCube features:

  • Reproducibility: Efficient, uniform, and precise exposure of particulates onto target cells and tissues.
  • Precision: Optimized flow paths using advanced computational fluid dynamics (CFD) modelling.
  • Deposition: Patented thermophoresis, increasing the deposition efficiency of small particles without imparting unnatural electrostatic charges onto the aerosols.
