Inhalation Exposure
The delivery of pharmacological compounds and toxins into or via the respiratory tract is continuously gaining importance. While large scale inhalation systems are suitable for some applications, others require more compact designs to allow for an efficient and controlled inhalation exposure.
Challenges
Efficiency
- With large-scale exposure systems, during inhalation exposure, only a small fraction of the aerosol produced to be inhaled by the subjects.. In many cases, these methods are prohibitively inefficient, e.g. when expensive drugs are being used or when unintentional dilution must be avoided.
Exposure Patterns
- Because of their large internal volume, standard inhalation exposure systems are also limited in their ability to rapidly ramp up concentrations or switch from one toxin or gas mixture to another.
SCIREQ Solution
- The inExpose is an innovative, compact and cost-efficient inhalation exposure system. Its low internal-volume construction maximizes delivery to the animals, ensures that unintentional dilution is kept to a minimum, and reduces the volume of toxin that has to be generated.
- The combination of this low volume design and our computer-controlled pump systems permits rapid switching between gas mixtures, e.g. when alternating between cigarette smoke and fresh air.The inExpose is designed to minimize powder deposition, to salvage rain-out, and is easily disassembled for full cleaning and decontamination.
