Aerosol Products

Our aerosol delivery products can be used as independent stand-alone solutions or they can be tightly integrated into any of our systems.

All of these aerosol devices are integrated into our research systems using specialized adapters that minimize dead space and avoid clogging due to rain-out in order to optimize precision and efficiency when used with small subjects. Furthermore, all nebulizers can be fully computer-controlled permitting customization capability over both rate and timing from the software.

Nebulizer platform

  • SCIREQ has pioneered the field of delivering aerosols directly into the inspiratory air stream of small animals undergoing mechanical ventilation. All present SCIREQ Aerosol Products are based on the Aeroneb Lab nebulizer built by Aerogen.

  • As with most nebulizers, the Aeroneb was originally designed for clinical applications and human subjects. SCIREQ has developed a family of specialized components and devices that permit the use of this nebulizer with much smaller subjects, down to the size of a mouse.

  • Our uniquely shaped adapters allow the integration of the Aeroneb into your experimental setup with minimal dead space. Different adapters are used for different animal sizes in order to optimize aerosol delivery.

Drug Compatibility

  • Aerogen's OnQ technology utilizes a unique, wafer-thin disk that contains thousands of tapered holes in a dome-shaped aperture plate of 15 mm in diameter. The aperture plate vibrates at over 100 kHz to draw liquid through the holes and disperse it into an aerosol.

  • The Aeroneb can be used with a wide range of substances, including broncho-constrictors such as methalcholine, proteins, peptides and liposome-based compounds. Substances can be provided in solution or suspension.

  • Because it operates without propellants and does not generate heat, there is no observed degradation or other adverse impact on drug integrity.

Controlled Delivery

  • The Aeroneb's medication reservoir can be nebulized until empty without risk of damage or introducing leaks. Consequently, the amount of compound that has been dispersed into aerosol is precisely known.

  • SCIREQ offers two Aeroneb models featuring different particle sizes for different experimention needs.

Integration with SCIREQ products

  • The Aeroneb can be tightly integrated with our flexiVent, inExpose and DAC-08 products permitting self-contained environments for easy and efficient experimentation.

  • Aerosol delivery can be precisely computer-controlled, including synchronization with different phases of the breathing cycle, and control of the nebulization rate.

Stand-alone usage
